That's nuts.  Hope the current buyer isn't expecting the same.  Up side, these crazy mk1 prices make me feel better about what I've spent on mine.
I am the GR8KORNHOLIO! Are you threatening me?

Crazy money for sure but i thought $28k was high, what a return on investment.
I think the pick up/fire truck is a first on BaT and surprised it is only doing $10,700 with 16 hours to go, but as we know its the last hour where the big bidders come to life.

MiniDave

The lil red Pup brought $25,500.....which I think is pretty good.....

Meanwhile a VW pickup made $33K!!!!

The red pick up fire truck may appeal to someone who likes or collects fire related stuff, lets face it you would be hard pressed to find another one.

A not-exactly-concours Moke has popped up on BaT.  Been in the same family for the last 55 years.  And apparently not everyone liked it or it wouldn't be in such poor shape.

This sold for $24,000.   Which is kinda crazy if you ask me.

Yet another Mk I Mini on BaT.  This one lived in Italy but he's not an Innocenti - it was an expat from Britain.

Looks pretty nice IMO.  Not a fan of the modifications to fit the Italian license plate.

It's still got the 850 engine, so it will appeal to collectors and not wannabe boy racers.  I think it May be bid into the mid- to high-teens.

My guess was close. This sold for $18,750.   A fair price for a nice Mk I 850 I think.

And another Mk I Mini 850 is now on BaT.

This car keeps popping up – it's on BaT for the FOURTH TIME overall and the third time in just the past 12 months!  It last sold for $25,000.

Well, it was bid to just $20,000 and, not surprisingly, went RNM.

So the last sales price of $28,000 was perhaps the high point for this car?

When I saw the photos of this car, I thought for sure it's newer than a 1971.  But the dash and size of the pedals seems to support it really being an early Mk III.   I've just glanced at it but it looks sharp. Perhaps it will be bid into the upper teens?

A really pristine Riley Elf has just popped up on BaT.   The market for these is more limited than that for the regular Mini body style but this one looks very sweet and has an excellent auction presentation.

This is already up to close to $15K.  I think the MiniMania 1380 and the 5-speed have generated a lot of interest.   Could this non-Cooper, non-VTEC Mini go into the twenties?  I think so.

The Mania link the seller posted to the 1380/5-speed combo was almost $16K! I think posting that had the desired effect of goosing the bid....

The seller of the green '71 with the 5-speed has posted a list of rpm's at speed.

Quote
60 MPH in 4th gear at ~4200 RPM
60 MPH in 5th gear at ~3800 RPM
70 MPH in 5th gear at ~4200 RPM.

I'm not too impressed.

Those must be wrong?  My mini with a 3.44 and smaller diameter tires does those rpms in 4th

MPlayle

Definitely something amiss in those posted readings.

My 1996 SPI (Mini Cooper 35th Anniversary with MK-I look) with a 3.44 and 10" wheels does 70 mph at just above 4000 RPMs, 75 mph @ about 4500 RPMs.

MiniDave

According to the Guessworks chart, a 3:44 on 10's should be 4231 rpm @70 mph, 75 mph @ 4550 rpm

a 3-1 should be 70 @ about 3800, and 75 @ 4100

and a 2:76 should be 70 @ 3400, 75 @ 3650 - on 13's these drop about 200 RPM

Does that take into account the five speed?

A Mk I Cooper S, originally delivered to California when it was brand new, is now on BaT.  And offered at no reserve!   I think this might go pretty darn high.

I assume a car like this goes "no reserve" because BaT won't list it for the reserve the seller wants so to list it at all it has to go NR?

No, the 5 speed is  82% in 5th, so with a 3:44 5th should be about 3500 @70, 3800 @ 75 mph

Almost thought this was my old car, but mine had roof damage as well

Jimini II

Missing the crucial spot welded on body number and a reproduction engine and vin plate along with a replaced front end I feel is not going to help the bids on this Cooper S.

Heck yeah it went into the twenties!    Sold for $27,000.   :-\

Lotsa money for a non-Cooper plain old Mini that's been fixed up nicely.
