I had a weird squeal coming from the right front intermittently.
I took things apart and the plastic water shield had some fibre wrapped around it. It also looked like the seal had popped out.
Not 100% sure it is the source of the squeal, but only thing I could find so far.

Looking at the CV, the surface where the seal rides has some marks but nothing I can feel with a finger nail and the shaft where the bearing rides seems fine.
I thought I had a new set of CVs to compare it to, but I wrapped up the old ones and carefully put them in the new box, making me think I had a set on hand.

I would scuff it up with a scotchbrite pad and put it back in, along with a new seal if you think that one was worn or damaged. Unless you drive in the rain a lot (like in Seattle or something) I wouldn't bother with the water shield.
