Trying to resolve a few installation and running issues.
Upgraded to the Delta 400 ECU. It appears the software functions of this version allow more control.
Swapped to the CAM6618 manifold
Added separate power for the gauges

After sorting out the throttle cables with the ends from Venhill, I still had some sticking after a good run. Still not sure about the cause, but I ordered a new throttle body.

Today I got this back:
Hi Terry,

All was going swimmingly until the "lockdown" which slowed our supply chain down, the good news is we should be getting a trickle of throttles very soon - yours is one of these, fingers crossed at the end of this week, I'll look into the shipping cost

Regards
John

Locally I have a cast manifold out to be ceramic coated. The shop is down to one person, just the owner now. He has been told his business is not essential. Good thing it is a spare.

I called my local machine shop to see about getting a head done - they're backed up just like Jim is and they just added another guy! they said at least a month, maybe 6 weeks before they could touch it.

Replacement TB arrived, now I can move on with trouble shooting

One step forward and two steps back...
They changed the pitch of the thread for the fuel rail fittings.
I had swapped to AN hoses and connections.

I keep bouncing the idea around in my head to convert to fuel injection just as something else to do.  At this point would you recommend it?

tmsmini

For something else to do, yes...
I am still on the fence. I have had really good luck with the Rover MPi engine as a daily driver for close to 20 years.
My thought was what was hiding that could be set free by using an aftermarket system. It was probably ten years ago that I started looking at Micro/Mega Squirt.
I may get back to that project just for something to do. Now that I know a little bit more, it does not seem as daunting as it did a number of years ago.

It really depends on what you expect to get out of it. I am not looking for massive power, just good drivability with enough power to enjoy it.

We are close. After I get the new TB sorted out and get it setup on a dyno, I will know what I have achieved. My thoughts were it should be at least as good on mileage and power as the HIF 44 fueled version, hopefully better.

As much tuning as I've done between twin carbs and now an hif44,  carbs still leave some room for improvement.  Got my hif44 tuned in great and it drives wonderfully, but it still irks me when I see rich spots you simply can't tune out without screwing up the rest of it.

There are a number of systems out there that can be adapted to the 5 port A engine. Moss has system for the B that is based on the Megasquirt 3 I believe and that could probably be made to work on an A without alot of trouble.
Emerald, Specialist Components, VEMS, Canems, Micro/MegaSquirt have all been adapted. Specialist Components has announced a prototype of a direct injection head on their Facebook site.

The SC throttle body system that I am using is basically an electronic carburetor. A complaint registered early on the Turbo Mini forum was that the system did not provide for addressing the charge robbing issue. I have never gotten to the point of where I can assess that issue and you need two widebands to do it.

Hopefully by moving to the smaller TB, I can fine tune the setup to my satisfaction. The later SC Delta 400 ECU seems to have better controls.

I can't really complain as we have about 5000 miles on the engine with this setup including about 2000 to the Oregon Mini meet a few years ago.

One I get the SC system sorted out, I would like to go back to testing out the MicroSquirt system with the Rover FI components, just for something to do...

Usually I can get things from Summit Racing Reno in a  day which amazes me.
But with the current situation it will take another day or two, so no fuel rail connectors today.

Maybe time to pull out the Microsquirt components to see what I have "borrowed" for other things.

tmsmini

Some other slight differences in the fuel rails, at least one dimension is different

More to sort out tomorrow when the fittings arrive

It fits barely and the cable still seem to move smoothly

That is tomorrows job. I need to reset the throttle position sensor with the new TB and reset idle. That is an iterative process. I may need to readjust the throttle cable as well unless I get lucky.
