A Mk. II Cooper S is now on BaT.    Looks pretty nice.   And we all know white with a black roof is the best color combination for a Mini.   ;D

So, did a '69 still  have external hinges and sliders?

Yes, until the end of 1969. The Mk3 was then introduced as part of the 1970 model year.

And oh Dave, welcome back and stay well!

Sure did, as Scargo says.   The Mk II is one of the rarest of Minis because of the short run of about 2 years.  They differed from the Mk I with the revised non-mustache grille, bigger taillights, larger rear window, monotone black interior (no more of the cool interior colors of the Mk I), different badges front and rear (the best looking Mini badges IMO), plain bumpers with no overrider tubes, and some other stuff I forget right now.

Oh, and Dave, glad you're still kicking too.

Malcolm: is this one of Peter's cars(pmustang)?  I think he did some imports with Minis Bristol Minis before Barnhills.

It very well could have been Terry.
MBM Bristol Minis were very big in the late 90s through the early 2000s and looked like they did excellent work.
The Cooper S for sale looks decent with a recent expensive re commision.
There are a few incorrect items but most except the hydro are easily corrected.
The one thing no one can correct is the lack of a body number which is one of the crucial items needed when establishing an S's identity.

And trying to get all the money for it.....

I'll ask Pete if it's his car.  I worked with him post Barnhills.

And I quote:

No and after myself and a friend bought cars "restored" by MBM I would not touch anything they touched. Both cars had horrendous rust issues upon delivery

When I bought mine, on the day I visited, there was this exact colour S, I am almost positive it was the car, how many in this shade, cooper S cars could they have done? It had rusty water marks on it at the seams.

Horrendous work.

Thanks for the update. I always wanted to buy a car from Peter.
Now I will have to buy a Mustang and repatriate it back to the US!

Bought my 1st mini from him nearly 20 years ago now. 1999 mpi with 120 miles on the clock.  I mean a 1970  ;D 77.gif.  Flew down to Florida to pick it up and became interested in aviation.  Who knew that one singular day would determine so much.  Today I'm flying a 777 back from Europe and looking forward to going to my shop full of minis.

Cool insight.  Funny how a few seemingly minor decisions at one time can end up changing the direction of our lives.

The MK II Cooper S sold for a very healthy $38,500.

MiniDave

Looked like there were three strong players for that one, and then a new guy out of nowhere swooped in and bought it out from under them......strong money but a really nice looking car too.

I see Pete responded to the BAT listing and of course Bill C. had to reply as well!

You can count on that. Just like counting on MiniGuy to make an insincere bid on any Mini that appears on BaT.

There's an early Mk. I Mini on BaT and nobody, not even the owner, knows the engine size.  It's not a 1275.  This auction seems to be a magnet for comments...

Would look so much better without the very '80s air dam.

The consensus is that the engine and gearbox are from an MG 1100.
De seamed but at least they left the roof gutters on but still has drum brakes.
The dashboard is a 70's Mada dash which were real popular in their day.

MiniDave

Bryan's supercharged blue Mini is back on BaT today, and has already attracted some bids.....I hope he gets a good price out of it.

I've noticed R53 MINIs with low miles are bringing a lot more money now too - a 2004 S with low miles sold today for $21,500!!!!!

Time to roll back the odometer on my car!   ;D

I said it before - in the coming years I think the MINI R53 models will be respected like old BMW 2002 models are.  More like the 2002 tii models.

And BaT now has a Mk. I Cooper S from Canada.  It's a 1275 and has some rust, so it is being sold as a "project".
