Yes, that was exactly my thought too.....after spending $10K on it, I wonder if he thinks he'll get that back in the sale price? I tell anyone who will listen - if you can't do most of your own work, don't buy a classic car unless you have lots of money and are willing to spend it.

I guess the rings are good so a guy could get away with just doing a valve job. Other than the extra stuff you have to remove to get the head off, and the fact that you'd probably need some new exhaust pieces, it shouldn't run even $1K for me to do it were I to buy this car.

I'm always fascinated to read the invoices from the shops that work on Minis, and amazed at the prices they charge............. and that people pay!

I don't think it's that different from people who trust a dealership to work on their car - especially once the car is off warranty.  Dealerships seem to be the worst. They convince owners that all sorts of bullshit maintenance and care "multipoint inspection" items are required such like a 50,000 mile checklist that includes a full list of 40 important-sounding things, but in reality 35 of those things are bogus  "inspect brakes" or "check operation of..."  or "lubricate latches" and so on (I'm referring to the lists the dealers make up).   In my 45+ years of car ownership I've never taken an out-of-warranty car to a dealership just because of the impending ripoff factor in doing so.

They can't rip you off if you don't let them.....it's no different than buying a car, you just have to know what you're doing. Most of the mfrs have those check this and that lists in the service book

Right, it either takes ignorance, fear, or indifference to let them rip you off.   Unfortunately, a lot of  car owners have those things in spades.

I'm sure this "coupon" for the services listed is totally worth it.  ::)  But how is the first bullet of "lube oil & filter service" any different from the 9th and 10th bullets?

There are currently a couple of Minis on BaT:

This VTEC Mini Van with a big nose.  It's been on BaT before.  A square-nose Clubman front end would look a lot better than this plastic surgery job.

https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1968-mini-panel-van-2/

And this Mk. I race Mini.

https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1966-morris-mini-cooper-s-gt-5-race-car/

Well the long nose didn't stop the bidding as the van sold for a whopping $35k with the last bid being $10k above the previous one.

The no reserve white race Mini closed at $11k and judging by the comments will need a bunch of money and re engineering done before it can be raced.
The buyer was Jet Motors in Oregon.

An ERA Turbo Mini has reappeared on BaT

Down to the last few hours...looks like it wont hit the mark though, but no reserve?

MiniDave

It's close to what it sold for the last time....

Such a cool car + collectible for sure - cool to see.

Jimini II

I was surprised to see it in a no reserve auction especially as the owner had spent $10k plus on it since buying it, still a decent price as it should only go up in value as long as it stays away from those California repair shops lol.

It is my dream Mini.
There is one that turns up on the UK sites that is very original and claims to be number one, but there are other prototypes out there.

A nice 998 Mini is now on BaT.  A lot of effort spent on a small displacement car.

Ya know, if all you're gonna do is run over to the C&C or local cruise night, the engine size really doesn't matter.....it's all about the looks.

When I was in high school we called that "All show, no go"   ;D

And I thought cafe racers were bikes?

This yellow Mini is already at $25k with one more day to go i am guessing it has reached its reserve.

Can't believe Stan's Mini only brought $18K......it was so nice.....

The yellow 77 Mini closed at $35k.
That figure is in the Cooper S Mini's prices, very strong money for a non S or even Cooper somewhat stock clean Mini.
Congrats to the seller.

See cars like the yellow Mini bring outstanding prices makes it tempting to put the Mini Marcos up on BaT.  Unfortunately, with it being as much different as it is and "kit" based, it may get panned instead of doing decent.

jedduh01

Chatting now with my local bud about that car   35K  thats kinof silly!  "congrats to the seller for sure".

Marcos on BAT I think would be the proper place to sell it .. Its were gear heads go to watch interesting cars,  I dont think they've ever had a Marcos. that will get views alone. .  Have a good story behind the car and it will help ALOT.

When im ready to move my Pickup -   Ill probably do BAT = They've never had a Pickup on  BAT... that right there.

I wonder if it's possible that the bidder won't come through once the alcohol/mind-altering-substances wear off.
