Okay, I'm pretty sure this Mini is indeed black.  ;D    Just popped up on BaT, it's another JDM Mini 998 special edition.

This one was a grade 4 when it went though the Japanese auctions.  That's pretty high and rare grade for a 3 decade old car.   Wonder if bidding on BaT will reflect that?

Well this one reached $7800 reserve not met.
Not a lot of love shown for this one but imo it should have done better.

sad it's only seen 1000 miles in 12 years.

Yup.  Wonder if that's due to it being an automatic?

Ugly boot stripes limit your mileage significantly.

There are several automatics here, including one who drove up from deep in Texas....adjusted his valves before he left and didn't get one of the nuts tight, it backed completely off and he did most of the trip on 3 cylinders! When he got here the nut was still on top of the head (in the valve cover) so they put it back, reset them and he's been running fine ever since!   ;D

IMHO, that white 998 auto is a $5K car.

White!?    8.gif.

And to think you were the guy who called me out on mis-labeling a dark green Mini as black.

Well, I think Dan and Dave are going to be paying extra special attention to this BaT auction of a 1974 Innocenti.

That one has been around the web a fair amount.  I have the photo of the vin plate saved to my phone for example when I was doing research.

Also on those vin weights it should be curb weight of 610kg and gross weight of 1010kg.  I had our tag reflect that.

I know this fella too, I have been emailing and messaging with him for a while, I'm going to see if he'll let me know the reserve - I'm just curious.....in the videos it sounds good and seems to run out well.

That's funny i thought the same thing when i saw the listing.
It looks decent and should do well. It has a few specific Innocenti items missing plus a taped over hole in the dash pad along with a small hole in the headliner.
Definitely a nice driver level car.

Cold start claim is BS because the temp gauge jumped to over N immediately.

Rod change gearbox and pot joints?

That "might" be correct for a 74.  Our 73 is correct with remote change.

MiniDave

I didn't think rod change and pot joints came out till 79 or 80?

Rod change started sometime in 73.  Our remote was still used in February of 73.

Rod change was introduced in January 1973 along with the alternator by most accounts. Pot joints came in April or May of the same year.

Another Mini just popped up on BaT:

https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1980-austin-mini-1000/

This Mini just sold for $6600 with the seller offering a manual engine/gearbox package deal with most of the conversion parts needed for an extra $2500.

Just noticed the buyer is in California, that will put a wrench in getting it registered unless he uses his Montana business to do it ;-)

MiniDave

Yes, but he wants $2500 for the stick package and all....plus the auction fee of about $330. For a car with rust, dents and a tired interior.

I think this one might be coming back up for sale after the buyer finds he can't reg it in Ca....

Yes i agree for $9500 to $10,000 you could find a decent Mini, maybe not in California with the high prices they seem to demand there.

You may be right Dave. The buyer posted after the sale and apparently he recently moved from CT to CA and did not know of the stricter classic car regulations.
It pays to do your homework.
