It's no reserve on BaT???????

It didn't start out at no reserve.   Seller must have gained some confidence.

Yes, I saw that my old Yellow Aussie Moke is back on ebay.  It is now under a third "dealer", claiming it to be a 1275 when it is in fact a 998.  When WireWheel had it, they changed the wheels from the factory originals, converted it to LHD, and "lost" the front bumper.  Since then it has apparently had a radio added and the speakers installed into the lid of the truck box.

The outrageous price increases are all solely based on it having once been owned by "Bobby Rahal" (the race car driver).

That makes me think of all the owners and changes a vintage car goes through over its lifetime.  Some are sympathetic, and some just don't care at all.

And it reminds me of an old movie called "The Yellow Rolls Royce" with a bunch of Hiollywood stars of the 1960s.  The movie follows the life of the Rolls as it is first bought from a dealer by a diplomat, then later is owned by a gangster, and so on.

Another Min listed on BAT:

http://bringatrailer.com/listing/1960-morris-mini-minor/

Wow.  From what I can see looking at it with my phone, that is a very nice nearly original Mini.  I can't wait to look at it closer on my computer.   At this point I'm thinking it may approach $20K if the right buyer is out there.  And if it's a UK buyer, it could go higher.

My guess was high - it just sold for $15K.  Great price for a nearly original early Mk. I Mini.

That is WAY under what he listed it for on the Mini Mania classifieds.  There it was listed with an asking price of $30K.

Seems to me that wildly optimistically overpriced is the hallmark of nearly all Minis on the Minimania site (and the Hemings site too for that matter).

I wonder if the seller of that Mini regrets changing it to No Reserve?

Yup.  Looks like a nice period Mini in an oh-so-1970s potato brown. In the UK, in that condition, it would probably be about a 5000 car - about $6500.   So the $18000 the seller is seeking is quite a bit higher.   I would think it might find a home here in the US for $9-11K  if someone just had to have it.    IMO, the color, drum brakes, and the small bore engine keep it out of the sights of someone looking for a sporting Mini.

He has been trying to sell that one several times on the Mini Mania classifieds.  Here is the latest posting:

If you look carefully at the photos,, you can see some black patches up on the right side of the cowl and by the right rear arch, I asked him about those and he said they were rust bubbles.....  :-\

Two Mini wagons for sale on BaT right now, I think I like the yellow one better....LHD, plus the wood and the 1275 but both are nice.....

http://bringatrailer.com/listing/1963-austin-mini-countryman/

The blue one is a no reserve auction and brought $17Kand change only a year ago on BaT. It will be interesting to see what it does this year.....

Of the two Mini wagons on BAT I actually seem to prefer the blue one.

The item I am tempted by is the MG Midget with the Ashley GT conversion:

Nuts!

I've been trying to decide if I wanted to be brave enough to jump into that one.  Now I am likely to end up with serious competition for it if I decide to be serious about it.

I think there was also a place in Australia doing a similar conversion called the Monaco.

I did a Google search on "Mini Monaco" and looked at the image page that came up.  Some have flares of varying sorts and some don't.  All of them have a lower, chopped and more raked roofline.  The one on ebay appears full height.  I would go with your first guess of it being a Broadspeed conversion (or replica of the Broadspeed).

Perhaps something ABS Motorsport in the UK offered at one time?

Edit: Probably not a Broadspeed conversion - all of those shown in a similar Google search have the "duck tail" configuration.

I remember on minimania several years ago a guy named madmatt in Australia had a fiberglass roof panel of the Monaco made. I believe he had 10-12 made for sale. I am betting this car is from downunder and was put together there.
