The other point of view is that that's all the money for a cobbled up mess like that.

There was a guy complaining on FB that his TR6 didn't bring his reserve on BaT, like somehow he was owed a better deal than he was offered. His car was nicely built, but modified considerably and not to the taste of what most TR6 buyers want - yet he thought it was worth $35k or more, cause that's what he had in it....when most TR6's bring in the high teens or so.....

His car might be worth that to someone, but he didn't find them on BaT that week.

Generally speaking, when it comes to car restoration/modification, you rarely get back out of it what you put into it unless you just happen catch the timing just right and do most of the work yourself.

Buy/fix what you like and enjoy, that way it doesn't sting so much when you sell it for a loss LOL

That has been my general approach to most of the Minis I have owned.

MiniDave

Another way to look at it is why are you building your car for someone else? Build it, enjoy it, keep it, drive it.

If you get your enjoyment from the build......OK. Then whatever you get from the sale you're good.

Getting reaady to sell the Austin mini 850. How do you think it will do on BAT? Have to gather info and photos.

MK I's generally do well especially if they are already CA registered.

The AWD Vtec I think did all the money, I sure would not have wanted it at any price.
Also to mess up an Innocenti like that is a sin and what was that vin number all about?

A Mini Countryman is now on BaT.  Wonder if the lackluster color will hurt it?

A late-model Mini Cooper is now on BaT and... surprisingly it's not from Japan.  It's from the UK.    And it's been in Canada for a while.  Two red flags locations for rust issues. But rust has said to have been fixed.  Wonder how it will do at auction?

Looks strangely familiar.....   ;D

Nice that Canada let him keep it in country by just paying the taxes and fees. In the US it would have been crushed.

The green woody sold for $18K.  That's a pretty low price for a rarer Mini model.

The Cooper from Scotland is at only $10K with less than 30 min to go.

$14,750 now....still, cheap for a nice 1.3 Mini

Last second bit to $15,500....wonder why people do that when there's an automatic 2 minute reset?

2 guys going at it - $17,500 now.

$19,500

Sold for $20K

67 red/black S on BaT.
Nice shape it will do well.

Jimini II

The red/black S sold for $38,500.
Nice car with minimal previous rust repair and LHD, I thought it should have done $40k but $38,500 is pretty close.

MiniDave

Black 998 LHD Mini on BaT sold for $13,500......decent deal for that car I think.

I thought it was enough money too with rust issues, old tires, and a big area of the gearbox case covered in what looked like JB weld which the owner never did answer to.
I am betting someone is going to have buyers remorse.

1989 Mini 30 for sale on BaT.
Its an automatic with only 15k verifiable miles and in really nice shape.
I am wondering how much the auto will affect the bidding.

BruceK

A pretty ratty Mk I Cooper S has popped up on BaT.  Needs a lot.  But at no reserve.

Still, being a Mk I and apparently a genuine S, it will definitely find a home for some serious money.

Another Mk I Mini is on BaT, for 60 years this one has escaped being turned into something else and remains a humble 850.

The S could be made into a survivor as there is not any real top rust just underneath with the sub frame and battery box needing replacement.
The hydro could be expensive to fix but supposedly the engine is re built onto a Cooper 3 synchro gearbox.
The front seats have Karobes bucket seat look alike seat covers which date back to the 70's so should be in good shape.
Its a project but not the worse I have seen.

Just for "giggles", I used BaT's own 'Origin' categories to see how many cars were from (built) where:

Total auctions:       511
American:             154
British:                   59
French:                    1
German:               191
Italian:                   27
Japanese:               72
Spanish:                  0
Swedish:                  4
Other:                      3

Porsche is dominating the German category with 84 cars listed.

MiniDave

Is that just for one week?
