The guy also had these three MG TD's he's gonna sell but hasn't figgered out what to ask.
Two stored in the weather. Blue one got a little shade. A fourth is piled on a trailer wrecked when his dad was in high school. May be of some interest to MG TD fans.

Rats, forgot to rotate the pics. Oh well...
Dave I have had contact with a MK1 Forum guy who has recently done a basket case like this and is asking $10,000 for the shell.

cstudep

10,000 just for a MK1 shell that's been "restored"? :-\ If that's the going rate I think I could strip my 60 down and part it out for more than I could get for the whole thing assembled. LOL

tsumini

Yes I could do the same thing. He's a dreamer. I think he found out that replacing everything was too much time and too many new panels.

MiniDave

Wonder what HP it made, the Aussie GT was supposed to make 71hp IIRC.

These Mini people in the UK are out of their freaking minds.

This disintegrating pile of crusty iron oxide goes for truly crazy money in this video:  £18,000 !!!  Roughly $24,000.

Apparently they don't realize you can get a fully running restored genuine Cooper S in the US for not a whole lot more money.

You got to look at the video see how bad this car is.

Un-Freaking-believable!

And he's not sure if it will need a re-shell!  :D

Normally this car, with nearly 100K miles,  would be perhaps a £9000 car on a really good day.  But the auction house claims they are expecting £22K to £25K (!)

Seems kind of a crazy move to try and price 1990s Mini Coopers like early ones.

Does the fact that it's an RSP impact it that much?

Did you see the gen 1 GP on BaT? Guy has two, one he drives and one he doesn't - 300 miles!....opening bids up to $39K already!?!?!?

Porsches and BMWs.

MiniDave

38 Porsches currently on there for sale this week, - if that's their average, it's over 1900 a year - I can't imagine any franchise Porsche dealer selling that many new and used P cars a year - not even in Miami or LA!

A red Honda Beat sold yesteray on BaT - for the third time.

First time 12/18/18 sold for $4500

2nd time on  8/25/20 sold for $7500

3rd time on12/10/21 sold for $12,311

That's pretty decent appreciation! I thought cars were depreciating assets? Wonder what it will do the next time?

As a Beat owner I was watching that one!  On the plus side, the owner paid for a paint correction and a car was very shiny and presented well, on the negative side it's been 10 years since a timing belt change and that's generally valued at least $1000 cost.

So. Wow.

Do you wanna see something really crazy from BaT? How about a plain old 28 year old Honda Civic hatchback with 100,000 (!) miles and plastic wheel covers?

Sold for $17,250!!!!    WTF?  Must be nostalgia-driven? Somebody's first car?

It easily costs that much because the Beat is like a Porsche Boxster where you can't really even see the engine, and the engine has  to be dropped down to access the timing belt and water pump and so forth.  When I was sourcing a Beat from Japan that's the Japanese price I was quoted for having the work done in Japan before it was exported and of course they would be familiar with doing that job on a Beat. Nobody in the US is going to be familiar with it so the cost is likely higher.
