I did get in touch with the seller and got some more information to consider.

I decided to pass on it though.

Too much money, or another re-shell waiting to happen? Or both?

A mix.  The more I studied it, the less comfortable about the price - seemed too much.  I don't think it is another re-shell waiting to happen (at least not like my white one turned out to be).

It does show indications of work in the past, but much better work than was done to my white one.  There were several places that should have well defined seams, but appeared to have been smoothed.  It had several things that were later model replacement items inconsistent with being a 1964 Moke.

It also had dark carpeting installed on the sides of the pontoons in the seating area.  That technique was used on my white Moke to hide some messy welds where the pontoons had been rebuilt.

When I got a couple videos (startup and walk-around), it revealed the shifter to be more like the later Aussie Mokes - a cross between magic-wand and rod-change.  That coupled with an apparent 998 engine indicated at least an "upgrade" at some point in its history.  The VIN also did not seem correct for a Moke.

MiniDave

Yeah, I can see why you passed - too many questions. Once burned, twice shy.

So tell us about the Mini you DID buy? Did you get Flur back?

I bought a 1991 Saloon out of the Tampa area.  I had Malcolm (Jimini II) inspect it for me.  Here is the link to the original ad on Mini Mania:

A solid, decent daily driver without a lot needed.

MiniDave

Cool! I saw that one (every so often I peruse the Mania ads) and I def liked the color scheme. Maybe we need to start planning another Texas get together?

I can definitely put another one together.  I'll start an event thread to gauge interest and possible dates.

Here is one on Facebook, an ERA in Calgary:

Seems very reasonable. As someone commented they are bringing these back from Japan to the UK and selling for more than this.

Just in time for the Xmas holiday shopper!   77.gif

Anyone ever see a thermostat housing like that one before....on a Mini?

OK, this one impressed me with the level of craftmanship (or is it crapsmanship?) but the front end in particular just does not work for me.....

Wow, someone has some time and $$$ in that build. Most of it does look very nice. Bet it hardly gets really driven though.

A face only a Mother could love.

I do like the MK I look grille profile though.

Has the automotive world gone nuts? First it was the Mini beach car going for $230K, now a Fiat Jolly has sold for $142,000 on BaT! And a 71 240Z brought almost Dino money at $310K What the hell is going on?

I thought Wayne Carini was nuts when he paid $60K for his Jolly ...  :-[ ::) 8.gif

I will admit, I am using MiniGuy to manage the sale of the Mini Marcos.  He posted a craigslist listing (linked back to his site for the full details) that got picked up as the back reference for the Barn Finds posting.

I like that Barn Finds appears to have done some of their own background research before making their post along with their post being an independent write-up (not some cut&paste job).  I am hoping the additional exposure generates some serious interest in the car.

BruceK

Good luck Michael!  More exposure is always great.  And there's always BaT if you decide to go in that direction.

Not a Mini, but a MINI on BaT.

This is the limited edition Goodwood model with the full Rolls-Royce interior, only 140 sold in the US. The best leather, lambswool carpet, the interior was done by Rolls.   So sort of like a classic Mini done by Radford.

And the MSRP was an eye-watering $52K (!) when new.  :-\

Offered at No Reserve, somebody is being brave.  What do you think it will bring?   Perhaps $20K?  Less?

The MINI Goodwood baby Rolls-Royce sold for $23,750  :-\ , quite a bit more than a contemporary 2012 Cooper S would sell for.  So it did keep some of it value.

When I was a kid, I had a Corgi model of this Heinkel 3-wheeler.  But I never imagined one with a Honda motorcycle engine!

This is a crazy microcar.  Check out the video below.  The original German engineers are spinning in their graves at 11,000 rpms just like this engine!

I'm glad he finally put up some driving videos, the in car version wasn't as crazy loud as I thought it would be but like all bike engines cars he's turning a million RPM at "street" speeds. I wonder if the speedo is accurate? If so he was turning about 7K at 70 mph......

and I think my cars are geared too low!
