Depending upon the unknown condition of this car, I think that's a pretty good price for a 1275 equipped Mini (and with spare parts too).

Not too different from the Japanese-spec Mini currently on BaT.  I saw that the seller received the for the car just last month.

Further proof that the Mini world - as least for Mk1 Cooper S -  has gone as mad as the Porsche world. this lovely example brought £20,000 at auction in the UK yesterday......

So clearly a candidate for one of the new Heritage Mk1 shells, but other than that it only needs.......everything! Do you think they paid £20K for the vin?

But Guys,

Look on the bright side.  It looks to be a 1071S and they are only original once.  Oh, and "barn find condition" is en vogue.
I'm kidding.

The yellow thing looks like a part from a wheel boot?

The Brits are suffering from collective automotive guilt for very casually sending more than 4 million (!) Minis to the scrapyards over the past decades including many Cooper S models.   Therefore they get hyper nostalgic and very sentimental (and financially foolish) when they actually unearth an old Mk. I  Mini.  And multiply that times 10 if it's a Cooper S.

Reminds me of the muscle car craze of the early 2000s. There was a rusted out shell of a cuda, but the vin said it was a Hemi car and therefore was work $50k.

I remember somebody did that sort of thing with an old Mini body shell several years back.

every time I see something like that, I like to think they found the donor car as a total loss with the front already ripped off of it...

I got bored, so I started looking for Minis on Craigslist across the country.

Some of these are reasonable, and some are definitely head-scratchers.  But all are interesting for one reason or another.  Sometimes it's the wildly crazy price.  Other times it's the owner's lack of knowledge.  Bonus if it's both!   Enjoy!

My favorite quote in one of the ads was this gem:  "We have had 6 people in this car, and it handles it just fine."

You must have been bored!

I know the guy in OP that has this car for sale, he's a nutter but he had a fistful of Minis and has slowly sold them off. His cars are always every bit as nice as it looks, so this would probably be a good buy.

Did 68's still have external hinges? I thought that's when they went to roll up windows and internal hinges?

A penny for your thoughts on this Mini.

https://washingtondc.craigslist.org/mld/ctd/d/1968-morris-mini-minor-penny/6730020319.html

I think there were several of these made.  I saw one in Niagara Falls (slowly I turned...) back in the 1980s.  And one in San Antonio in the early 1990s.  Both were sitting outside a Ripley's Believe it Or Not tourist trap.   Could have been the same car, but I don't think so.

Well everyone in NZ would automatically know it is a Mini, so that wouldn't fly there.   I think that points to the plaques having been applied in the US.
