Rosebud

I purchased "Rosebud" from a private party in Kansas City, MO in 2007. It was transported to Seven Enterprises, LTD in Auburn, CA where is was disassembled, modified and partially restored. It was returned to me in 2009 to be completed. They say that the last 10% of a restoration takes about 60% of the time. I didn't believe it... I do now. There were still lot's of details and projects, big and small to complete. All done now!

Looks great!  I can concur the last bit of a project takes the most time.

looks great, is the last bit ever done?

Yes, mine was painted in month 44 and I was able to drive it in month 57.

Got my Renault back from the body shop in month 63, and should have it running next month (month 76), finishing touches over the next few.

I really like that red Richard, what paint was it? IE: What car was it used on?

I'm really liking the metallic Red I'm seeing on some late model Mazda cars......I wasn't really looking to paint my project car red, but that might work - maybe with a MINI white silver top?

That is original Mini COF, called Flame Red that was used on Minis from 1984 to 1994 or 1988 to 1999, depending on which source you believe. They had another name for it some years or on some of the brand variants.

After seeing pics on forums I was going to use targa red, but just bought a small bottle and sprayed the front section of a " new" fender that was Flame Red originally, leaving the A section as Flame Red. The Targa was much too black for my taste, so I went to the paint store and had them look up the formula for COF.

Here is the pic of the two reds

Considering it's red to start, that's ideal.  And if you happen to like the red on my mazda rx7, I happen to have WAY too much paint left over for it that would easily paint a mini.  For a very good price on the materials 77.gif

Another metallic red on a mini that I've done and really like is nightfire red.  I did it with a metallic silver top too.

We have a VW bug we need to restore and the wife wants it red....  May have to talk to you about that.

Funny thing was when my body guy was painting mine, Coca Cola sent a truck in to be painted "Coca Cola Red".  I'm sure somewhere there is a pantone color for that, but my body guy decided to paint it my color and they liked the result, so now all local Coca Cola trucks are Mini COF.

I've seen some of the nice resto work you do. Love the pick-up. My Saloon is "Flame Red" also. I get a lot of comments on the color. It was painted almost 10 years ago and it's holding up well, especially for red. The pics I posted were taken on a cloudy day so it may look a little darker than yours, but in the sun it really pops.

Are you using dry ice to harden the undercoating so it will just chip off?

Yes, dry ice. It worked reasonably well, I guess. Although leaving the car outside overnight during the winter, depending on your latitude would also work.

Thank you! They're DELTA springs and high/lows (Japanese). The DELTA colors don't correspond with the usual manufacturer's colors. I believe these were described as "firm/sport." Gaz shocks w/ KAD anti-roll bar at the rear.
