Looks like I have a buyer for Twitchels car Flur. Plans are to do the full restore and paint it tahiti blue, white roof and stripes. I just bought a ton of new parts for the car I know I need or want, and have a few new items to add to the list for the buyer. Converting it to lhd and throwingin a new dash. Magnum is still putting together my big panel purchase which has the panels I need for the car. Meanwhile I have a shipping company that's going to ship it from Florida to my shop in Tulsa. Just in time as the Mexico blue mini makes its departure back to Dallas.

Have yo sourced the LHD pedal conversion for the brakes. The late models use a cross bar configuration to keep the MC and servo in the same spot.
No I've been browsing a little though. Have any extras laying around or pics of the assembly?
Here is a reproduction unit that used to be made. The only ones I have are for projects and not willing to let go. I will say that I paid a pretty penny to get the last one. The seem fairly rare as they were only used on LHD cars and not that many are being parted out.
I was considering it for mine since I'm not sure how comfortable I'm going to be yanking the e-brake all the time with my left arm. Had no idea it wasn't a simple swap of the steering rack and maybe just picking up the other regular pedal box - what makes it so hard? Wouldn't you just move the brake/clutch stuff to the other side?
I kind of figured it was some hard to find expensive part. I'm probably going to simplify and ditch the booster and use a different master on the left side.

On the earlier Minis that did not have any brake booster (or used the "remote" booster), it is easier because the brake master does get moved over. The later Minis used an integrated master/booster and the only place it would fit is on the right, above the clutch cover. Thus the requirement of the cross-over bar.
I'm soon to have two master/booster setups for sale if anyone needs one.

Haha. Well updates for the day are the shippers called and said they haven't forgot, but there hasn't been a truck available. I wired a bunch of money to magnum for the big panel purchase for the store and this car. Next week we still clean the shop and I will be putting up a new paint booth at some point. There should also be a bunch of parts from gb carparts for this car, sandpaper (mudhen gets his shipped too), and carpet and other things on the way from minisport. So lots is happening behind the scenes!
Car gets picked up Monday, delivered Wednesday. I'm still ordering parts for it.

Well Flur was picked up today. I took her for one last drive before we loaded her up. The guy picking it up wanted to keep it for himself, haha. I am very very sad to see her go, but I a very glad to know that she will be getting a full resto WAY sooner then I would have been able to, and in the same color combo that I would have done. I will be watching intently.
And yes, the Union Jack was made of Duct tape, I was just tired of looking at that rusty A panel, haha.

Thanks for watching over the car for the past month or more. I opened up several boxes that were shipped while I was out of town. Reupholstering the dashes doesn't look like its going to be easy. I bought kits to do them, the material is high quality and has a nice stitch, but I have a feeling its going to be tricky.

Fires right up and drives too. Though my two minute test drive resulted in a broken fan belt, lol.
Really? That was a new belt too... After you came down, she sat in that parking spot for a little over two weeks before I had a chance to go out and start her. Fired right up on the first key turn with no problem and drove surprisingly well for only running on 3 cyls, lol.
Pretty sure that valve is unstuck. Doesn't seem to be missing. I have the new crank sensor for it too.
Awesome. I thought it felt a little smoother and peppier when I took her for a final spin around the block. I am actually glad that you already have it sold. I am very anxious to see her restored, and being sold just means that I get to see the progress a little quicker haha.

Engine off and a few other bits and pieces. Some of it took some doing and still soaking a couple odds and ends. The coolant system is going to need a good flush. The heater and lines going to and from have a lot of sludge. The new radiator looks nice though! Will have to drop the rear subby when I get back in a couple weeks.

Technically yes. Sometimes I pick up trips for time and a half and in this case have 3 weeks off and plan on putting myself to use. While I get a lot of time off, I just end up working regardless. Its also nice that one sick call nets me 7 days off...not that I would ever call in sick to work in my shop ;)

End of the month officially starts the 27th for me. This week is my normal 3 day pit stop with two days in the shop. It will be good timing with the panels arriving this weekend or Monday for when I come back to start fitting and welding them on. I have some patchwork on either corner of the bulkhead scuttle area for the windscreen panels to weld against and door closing panels to fix up, then the front end should be back on. May replace the one inner wing that's a little narled up too. Once I get that stuff on I'll put it on the rotissier and work on boot and cills. Then she's ready for paint prep.
Trimming off more metal for the door jam/kick panel replacments and removing the few items left after I have been soaking bolts for weeks. More than half still broke off...kind of a waste of time, but I tried.

Boot area removed. The subby attach points in the boot will need some fab/patch work as there is some partial rot where it bolts up against. And one captive nut will probably need to be drilled out since I don't think the broken bolt will be able to be removed without a fight. Otherwise the subby attach panel is in great shape. All major rust has been removed, just a matter of sand blasting, wire wheel, and grinding to remove the last bits as I replace all the metal I've removed.

The side you show is all rotten obviously, and all the bolt snapped off. So cutting that area out and fabbing new. Drilling out the bolts and welding on new captive nuts as needed. The other side was perfectly fine.

I still have a lot of little patch work here and there on the bulkhead and have the right side door inner panel area to work on.
I will be puttin together a nice pictorial and write up of how to put together a front end so that things line up properly. This was really not that hard at all. Mainly I think because the scuttle is somewhat floatable and makes squeezing the wings on a little easier where they meet up with the scuttle corner. Everything fits wonderfully.

Isn't the hole it makes a lot bigger than the hole you used to drill for spot welds???
Guess I didn't catch watch size the holes are but I punched a bunch to get ready for spot weld extravaganza and seems like a perfect size to me. Maybe a hair bigger than I normaly would drill, but sure does make them lickity split with zero effort.

Then got the thing on its side, killed a black widow spider that had a nest under there, and started needle scaling. Once I do some patch work along some of the inner cills, and each rear wheel arch has a bad spot at the tops, the rest is all boot reconstruction and the metal work is done.

I guess there could be worse problems.

Boot lid meant for the later style handle? It looks like you test fit with an earlier 'T' style handle instead of the flatter late style.
Oh, lol, nah actually I tried to fit the later style handle, but since it was offset I used what Richard had on there which was a garage door handle, which had an extra long square peg to fit in the slot. Made it easy to turn the lock to hold it in place while I fitted things.

The air compressor just stopped compressing,which is a problem. About done as soon as I get air back.
Compressor fixed and got the bottom painted. Tomorrow I start on the paint booth.

I have been watching intently. I am so excited to see her go through all this change.... But with a little sadness too.... I miss that car a lot. I made the mistake of going and talking to the guy that I got her from... and I may have found myself a "Flur 2.0" If I can convince my wife and get the funds together. Keep up the good work. I cant wait to see the color on the outside! Are you doing it all Tahiti? or Tahiti-Silver / Tahiti-White?
Its even exciting for me, lol. Will have a white roof and white stripes on the hood. I'm tied up at a wedding next week and the girlfriend the week after, so its gona be a few weeks before I can start in on body prep. Roof and hood are easy, but lots of sanding required on some areas of the body. Then hopefully all the parts I ordered get here soon so I can get it back running again.

Dent and ding hunting day. A couple minor ones on the roof and a couple minor ones on the right side, the damage in the left rear quarter and of course the rear end around the tail lights. Should be good to go, lots more sanding obviously. Got some sealer/filler on the front and filler primer on the attention spots.

She's come a long way. I'm getting antsy to get home and finish up the prep so I can start putting together all the new parts after the paint job. Haven't even begun to open them all up there's so much new stuff going on.

Just got home from a day working on the car and was all ready to post pics, but I left the camera at the shop. :-[ But I was able to rebuild a door, and half way done rebuilding the other door. Both doors required a lot of panel work on the bottoms and of course new skins. One needed a new track installed and the glass aligned since it was a bit skewed when rolling up and down. Time consuming to say the least. Fitted the finished door and I'm very happy with the fit. I guess the plan tomorrow is to finish the 2nd door, fit it, and prep them. Was hoping to get some more paint on something this week, like back of the hood and boot lid, but we'll see.
I like paint.

After some investigating and comparing to my other factory boot lids I found that the problem was where the bracket fits on the back of the boot lid was not positioned properly.

Things yet to do: Sand blast engine bay. Weld captive nuts for the shock tower brackets where all of them were destroyed/rusted away. Prep back side of doors and continue block sanding fronts. So what is the plan for matching up 2 different colors like on the stripes? I know it's not as easy as, 'put a piece of tape over the blue area and paint the white area'...(is it?)
When I painted the little rust spot on the back of my '05 I masked the area off, primed it, and painted it. Took the tape off and had a nice ridge of primer showing... 8.gif
He probably painted the white first, then masked the stripes out, then painted the blue, unmask it all, then clear everything together.
Blue first, mask, white, clear over it.
More prep work today. Went over the body again, about have the doors prepped, got the shock mounts ready where I had to drill out busted bolts, roof masked, and yeah that's about it for today.
Just another day of prep. Engine bay is ready for primer. Doors are on their final sanding. Body is ready. I "might" have it painted tomorrow.

Wasn't too thrilled when I realized I wasn't going to have enough. This blue being dark and metallic needs a little more spraying to get a consistent layer. So close, yet so far. :(

Blue on, new gun rocks. Waiting for the blue to flash then clear time. The new gun sprays out harder at lower pressure so fingers crossed I don't run any clear.

So everything went well. The new gun has three different tips, I was using the standard 1.3mm, I think I may try the 1.2 next time around. Really blast out the material. Tomorrow I will begin to color sand and buff so its ready to reassemble.

A lovely day of color sanding and begun buffing. She's gona be slick. Probably would have gotten most of the buffing done but job number one required I take a very extensive test this morning. Off to work in the morning and will be back the 23rd to continue on this and Dean's pitbull disaster.

Well she's buffed up nicely. As soon as we get deans car the rest of the way finished I'll be doing the headliner and putting in the glass. Have the carpet down and need to cut some slits for where the floor rail things beside the back of the front seats are. Have a rear sub frame ready to transfer all the new goodies over to also.
The garage door opener is ready and the [only] key chain [that I will ever use on a "classic" car] is found!

Two minis deep.
Ok where to begin. I've been working on minis like a madman. 20.gif (see dooders car) So anyways I started putting this thing back together. Started off pretty good, then the rear sub frame had a few extra items that needed replacing/broke, so its on the backburner while we wait for a couple parts. The pedal assemble had a bunch of nasty and broken studs, so I drilled out and replaced those. Since we did a LHD conversion the assemble needed to be tweaked and fabfricated. My research told me that I needed to move the clutch pedal over 30mm and the brake 15mm, while completely redoing the throttle pedal. LHD pedals have been out of stock for awhile. I've never spent so much time rebuilding a pedal assembly before, but it clears the heater assemble and the steering column, while allowed room for feet to work the pedals. Speaking of heater assembles, the matrix on this one was filled with mud. Couldn't even blow air through it. Eventually I got it unclogged and put back together. Glass in, fillet strips in, trim, chrome, carpet, seats, did the headliner kit, cleaned up the old visors. I reupholstered the upper and lower dash pads and fit the new dash. Still need to put in the light over the B pillar and vents, but that will come when I get to the harness and tighten the dash up. I had some old/new in a box rally lights, however the bar that came with it was the biggest pain in my ass I've ever experienced. Apparently I was missing some parts to it. Going to fab up something a little different than what I have on there now that's less bulky and shinier, but for illustration purposes this one will suffice. Tomorrow I will work on the front sub frame, then its back to job numereo one.

Today was work on the front subframe. I needed to get the cones out to put in the hi-los so made a compressor tool to get things apart. $3 later I saved buying an $85 tool from online. Cleaned up the one spare subby I had and got it in the car. Installed the cones, new mounts, and got new brake lines on it too. Started in on cleaning the engine up and getting it ready to put in. Need to replace a few items on it and I've added a few more to the list of things to buy overall.

I kind of thought maybe you never used the heat down there in Florida. It was amazingly packed with dirt. Should be interesting when I pull the water pump and investigate further.
I had one cold day during the time that I was daily driving it. But it was small enough that my body heat warmed up the interior, haha. I am very interested to see the water pump too.

That mini is looking great! I love the picture of the workshop with Minis in various stages everywhere. Having a lift is going to be awesome. I used to love using the lifts at the auto hobby shop at the base I was stationed at in NC. Let us see a pic when you get it installed.
John shop owner has been sick, but he should have it up soon. We have some wood working projects going on in there this month then can clear things back out again. Never a dull moment, keep thinking one of these reality TV shows should pick us up.

Update for the day. Have the rear subby about completed, need to source a couple random bolts for the rubber brake lines and the knackered up pins for the brake cables swivel gadgety things. New cones on, hi los, got the new knuckle joints I was needing, new brake assemblies on, re pinned the swivel hubs, new bearings, fuel filter, metal lines, bushings, ect... The engine is off the old front subframe and ready for a cleaning and new paint. The suspension is ready to be rebuilt and freshened up with new bushings, bearings and so on. Sadly though the thermostat housing broke to pieces getting it off, so get to order one of those. Two of the three bolts busted on it, and two of the manifold studs are still lodged in the head that busted, which is tomorrows task as well. I will say one thing about this car, it has had an abnormal amount of bolts bust! The water pump is off and all and all wasn't as bad as it could have been given the matrix I pulled off. OH and the new steering wheel showed up too, its sweet looking. Fingers crossed I get some wheels on this thing tomorrow and get it off the dolly. Dependent on how well the front suspension rebuilding goes.

Well another day, another handful of broken bolts. And a headache...walked into the cherry picker arm moving the engine and actually hurt myself to the point of severe headache and nausea. Anyways, got the rear end finished and on the car. Have most of the front suspension done, with the exception of I need to do the bearings and knuckle joints on one assembly, and the pins holding the lower arms on the new subby are ridiculously not budging for me to rebush them, so probably going to cut these off and use the other set I have. I finally gave up trying to get the damn things off. The banjo bolt on the slave busted off, so suppose I'll just order a new slave since everything else is new at this point. Fuel lines are in, engine is cleaned up pretty good, and I got new gauges mounted and the white faces on the existing gauges put on. Started to put this new awesome looking steering wheel on but the boss kit is apparently the wrong one, cause bitch don't fit. So that's aggravating as well. Did I mention my head hurts?

Sounds like this Mini is fighting you the whole way! Everything sure is looking good, though. Hope your head feels better today, you may have gotten a mild concussion.

Ha, yeah its had its moments. Bolts snapping off inside things left and right turns into a fiasco. Makes for quick removal of things but drilling out and fixing all the damage is time consuming. Head has a lump on it today but the headache is gone. I wasn't too concerned till a few hours later when I started feeling sick. You always hear of people bumping their head then dying a few hours later after not feeling well. Wouldn't want the final pic of this project me laying dead over the front subframe struggling with things. It was around that time I said to hell with the lower arms and went home. The other brake assembly is apart, just needs a half hour to do the bearings and knuckle joints. Once I get the new arms and bushings on I can get the engine in there and move on to electrical fun.
Well my day started at 4 am in the northeast. Not only does the weather have it messed up but my plane is broken. I'm supposed to be coming home today to continue on getting the front suspension built. Wish me luck.

I cant believe the transformation she's had in the last 12 months. Even less than that actually. I didn't do much at all to the car, and Dan has only had her since April, so really, this transformation has been over the past 7 months :-\

Fairly productive day. Got a good portion of engine bay stuff on. Flushed the radiator before putting it in, lots o mud. Had to put a couple new studs on the exhaust manifold before tossing it on. Pics soon.
Swapped the wiper and parts over after taking the guts out of the other one to swap to the new motor. Cleaned up the arm gears and lubed things up. We finally have the correct steering wheel boss. I also put on new stalks since the other ones had some cracks and a couple loose wires dangling. Fiddling with the brake lines. I had a T fitting but the ends to the two lines that are suppose to go into the proportioning valve are different, so I'm going to have to keep working on that. Need to source new fittings for the fuel lines that tap into the manifold, didn't notice before but the metal pipes that tap into it were twisted badly at the fittings. And had I thought about it ahead of time I would have done the crank sensor while the engine was out, I ended up taking the starter motor off to get to the two tiny bolts holding it on.
And the gauges are in!

Brake line problem solved. I got a flair tool and made the lines myself.. The fuel lines are still an issue. Went all over town looking for a fitting and nothing yet. Exhaust and shift linkage in, duct work and fuel tank up next.
What tool did you use for your flare tool? Just a regular old harbor freight double flare tool?
I went to the autozone and used one of theirs. The T-fitting I had didn't accept the fitting that come from the back to the front and from the front subframe. Those fittings are slightly different and are meant for the booster. Then the next issue was I found a perfect length of pipe that was pre flared with fittings to go from the master to the T fitting, but one of the fittings was short on the threads and wouldn't work either, so cut that end off and flared it again with a fitting from the scrap pile that would work. I spent a large bulk of the day getting all that taken care of. This fuel line is bugging me, I tried to flare the existing pipe that was twisted up and its so close to working but the flare needs more meat behind it for the coupling to push it up against the fitting in the manifold. I was able to gently untwist one of the metal fuel fittings that wasn't as bad, but the one was toast.
Don't worry. I'll do all of that on Tink. haha. I'll be the one cursing into the middle of the night about flares and fittings.

Moving along slowly but steady. The fuel line is a no go, probably gona have to order a new one. I did get in the tank, hooked up the rest of the fuel lines, new fuel pump, secured the master cylinders, ran the braided line for the clutch, got the harness in and started hooking stuff up. Replaced all the old cracked vacuum lines. I have one electrical plug that goes to a sensor in the intake that was frayed/broken, so I need to get that sorted also. The car won't run without it. Got the rear lights wired and need to work on the fronts, as well as the rally lights. Hoping to get them and the gauges wired up tomorrow. Need to research a little on that tonight. All and all its coming along. A bit aggravating at times. I would imagine that with all the replaced lines and a few of the electrical problems I've found it should run good when its all said and done.
What a day. First I was able to solve the fuel line fitting problem. Got a 5/16th pre flared brake line (same size as the fuel line coincidently), cut it, got a 5/16th feral, pressed it down till it was flush with the flare, thus giving my enough bite with the fitting that presses the flare into the manifold. Then I fixed the one broken electrical plug, or fabricated a new one rather. Then the day took a turn. I couldn't figure out where the adapter for the water temp gauge was. On the SPI's turns out they are underneath the manifold...who knew, not me. This was problematic because I couldn't get my hand in there to get it and another plug and another fitting on. So took the manifold off again. Then I was looking at the fitting where the coolant lines run into the manifold and this is what I came up with after I started poking it...

Well she runs. Lights work, horn works, wipers work, and I'm sure other things work too. Got the clutch bled, but guess what, the brake master was a slightly used spare I had sitting on the shelf, it doesn't work. Sat too long I guess. So I get to take the sumbitch back out and put in a brand spanking new one. Sometimes life just isn't fair. Took me awhile to get spark, then I remembered OH yeah its fuel injection and has one of those ignition/fuel cutoff switches.

I plan on covering the walls with 6 mil plastic when I get a chance so I can wash them down to keep it that much more dust free and sterile for when I paint. So your question was how warm does it need to be to primer...well you can do it cold if you must, 50ish or so. I wouldn't paint a car that cold, but primer to keep it sealed isn't going to hurt anything. It will run easier because its not going to dry as quickly so keep that in mind. Cost wise if you buy a gallon of sealer and activator, $150 give or take on what brand you buy. If its bare metal just buy a quart of say Nason epoxy sealer and one quart of the activator (its 1:1) and that should cover the entire thing with a light coat. Then Spray it down with filler primer after it flashes for sanding later. And yes I'm a magician.

Got the new master cylinder in. Went to bleed the fronts and the bleed screw on the right broke off and the left wont' budge either. 11.gif :-[ So next week I suppose I'll take the calipers off and use a different pair. Note to self, check bleed screws before putting old calipers on in the future.

Actually, was more concerned about how much money it was going to cost to heat up the garage. I can put the propane heater on (just spent $700 on 1 tank of oil for the house - no way am I turning the thermostat up out there) and get it to 50 in 5 minutes - but the body is still 34 - that ok or should I wait for a bit? I'm probably over thinking it again...
34 is a tad too cold, you wouldn't want it freezing before it dries. We have one of these that takes kerosene and will heat up the paint booth if I had to in about 3 seconds. They've been using it in the main shop area to keep it tolerable when its freezing out. 200 bucks or so and kerosene is 4-6 bucks a gallon depending where you get it.
Almost have the spot lamps finished up. We had an ice storm and it's stupid cold so I wasn't exactly moving fast today.

Eh. Bottom line is I can't run all six forward lights at the same time. Max 4. So.... I shall assume a separate switch from the headlamps? That'll work.
You'll have to refresh my memory. But these are wired to the normal switches (separate fuses and relays though). Low beams turn on 4 of them, high beams all six. Is it possible to get away with high beams having all six since presumably no one will see?
I was really thinking separate switches for pairs. Toggles or something. Wired in to the low beams with kill switches would work. Meaning, could have them on when the headlights are on but be able to turn them off. I suppose that would work.
Ideally, I was thinking they'd be on a completely separate switch for each pair (2 switches). On/Off at any time. Like spots. But, then, I don't necessarily understand the intricacies of auto wiring.
Well I could put toggle switches somewhere for each set, or have it to where four come on for low beam with the factory switches, and then the two meant for high beams come on as the two low beams kick off when you hit the high beam switch. This would give you four max at all times too. Basically all I did was wire them up like later model sport packs have them.

I will defer to your judgement on the particulars. Just so long as I really have to "try" to get all 6 going at the same time, it's all good. I just don't want to have them all going without a choice in the matter. Something intuitive to the switching will be fine. But, that being said, wiring such that 4 run with lo's (lo beams and 1 pair of "fogs") and 4 run with hi's (hi beams and the other pair) sounds pretty nifty.
I'll look into finding a plate to mount a toggle switch or two so the six are optional with high beams.
When I had to add a couple of switches on the yellow 1961, I used a piece of 3"x3" angled aluminum ('L' brace type) and mounted it under the edge of the dash. It was sturdier than the plastic ones you sometimes see and I could size it for the number/type of switches I was adding.

The best idea I read on this is a switch inside the shifter boot that only you know where, that disables the elec. fuel pump. You cannot see it from inside the car and the car is too low to see anything under it. Of course that only helps if you have an elec. pump.
Got the new calipers on and brakes bled. Re-wired the lights and have a toggle switch for the two spot lamp high beams. Set the timing but having some issues with a low rpm hesitation. After it gets past the stumble it blast off nicely. Researching the problem there. Found a slow drip coming from the heater matrix. It was hitting the gas pedal so caught my attention. That needs to come back out. Started wiring up the gauges. Need to put more gas in the tank to verify the gas gauge is working. Reading ziltch with a couple gallons in right now. Everything else is working though. The adaptor for the oil temp gauge came in, but its the wrong size. Such is life. Tomorrow is another day of fixing problems as I find them 19.gif
If it's the same sending unit that was in it before, it worked, but it was always off by a couple gallons. It always told me I was empty long before I actually was.
Yeah probably just don't have enough fuel in it. Do you recall if the engine had a low rpm miss?
The only time I had a low rpm problem was when the CPS was giving me issues. Other than that, nothing.
Hmm, I have a new crank sensor installed.
I had an issue with the TPS also, but it would cause the car to miss at higher RPMs, not lower.
Would you just take the crank sensor out and clean it?
That is actually what I did with the old one, and it solved the stumble as well as my starting issues that I had. Sometimes when the motor was cold, it would take several tries to get it fired up, it was a very dirty CPS, lol

02 sensor maybe. I have some things to try.
Got the gauges wired up and working. Kill switch in. A few other odds and ends on. The heater matrix required removal of the steering column to get it back out. It has some kind of hair line fracture in the one inlet pipe where it meets the plastic, so looks as though I'll order a new matrix and an 02 sensor. I did a bunch of test and troubleshot some things and the low rpm miss points that direction. The gas tank gauge works, though reads about an 1/8 low at full and zero with a few gallons in. The lights for the two main gauges don't appear to be working, so will trouble shoot that tomorrow. Wiring for the heater fan and brake lights figured out. I might tackle the stereo tomorrow.

OK it's actually playing music now. Got a couple Sony speakers for the rear. The fronts were a tad too big for the holes, search continues there.
So I was finishing up all the wiring, and got the bracket that holds the stereo in the dash mounted. As I slid the stereo in and it snapped into place the hot wire that keeps continuous power to the memory for the stereo, as well as the clock gauge had come loose. It touched the top of the stereo and fried it. Didn't blow the fuse, oh no, blew up the stereo instantly. Sooo...yeaaahhh.
Oh nearly forgot to mention. I was messing with the air box and noticed that the flapper valve that operates over the exhaust shroud to let warm air in was stuck in the closed position, letting no cool air in.
Sounds like this car is a bucket of fun.

Fuel Gauge Off trick - Worked on a 94 that had the same issue. Never go to full - drop fast and think its empty - but only take 4.5- 5 gallons to fill up.
The fix - Bend the rod of the level sender.
youll see a bend alreday in the wire /rod - it needs to be increased. It honestly took me 2 tries to get it reading like i wanted it to but now i run my tank down to fillups regular at 7.2- 7.5 Us Gallons. I now know - when its Close to the empty orange line - Better get gas!
Sounds like a typical full on rebuild- Touch anything- needs full repair.

Well stereo came in last night, so slid that sucker back in. I got the speakers to fit the holes in the front too. They are pretty dang slick. I also replaced the windshield washer bottle motor and wired that up. Need to get a bunch of the tubing since it runs from the rear to the front. Fixed the lights on the main gauges that weren't working. Got the vacuum actuated door on the intake lubed up and working properly. Was going to paint flares this week but they took my shop lights somewhere and its about 40 degrees in the shop. Still waiting on the other random parts I need anyways.
When running the tube for the washer from the rear to front, be sure to run it: up the c-pillar, along the interior roof gutter, down the a-pillar and through the firewall. If you run it under the car (or other low route), the washers will spurt whenever you slow the car suddenly (under braking).

The cover latching mechanism broke apart...can't replace the door so need to buy a whole new box ($125). Googling around seems like it's somewhat common (although mine may have been helped by having a rally computer mounted to it at some point ::) ) - someone mentioned taking it out and just having the little shelf that's left so that's what I did - it

Was going to mount the hood but figured I shall wait till the 02 sensor as it will require me being hunched over the engine bay. Screwed on your fancy burl shift knob.

I've done 50 or so restorations and I generally just do the body work now...all the extra things just seem to take too much time and I let the owner take over for that stuff...

Ha, yeah mudhen, yeah. I didn't mention that I painted two boot hinges for the same side. So I had to paint a 3rd. Course that only take 15 minutes of time really. But still, when you go to mount the boot lid and it doesn't work, you have to cuss a little.
Been doing some of the final touches. Fit the boot lid and bonnet, dash secured, carpet recleaned.... The rubber on the boot lid was rather stiff and took some doing to get it to close at first. Doing much better today. Probably a dozen other small things I did today. I want to get it out on the highway tomorrow or the next day after I do an alignment.

You can set your toe with just a tape measure and a couple of yard sticks (used as a straight edge). You can also use a digital angle finder from Harbor Frieght to make a tool to help you set your camber/caster.
Yeah just a lot of measuring.
Headed home for the day. Did more tidying up. I re cleared the one fender that I scraped up some time ago doing the wipers. So that's drying. Fine tuned the jets on the washers too lol. 4 jets!

Done. Adjusted the valves, nearly forgot to wire up the reverse lights but got those figured out. Cleaned up and took it for a spin. Hauls ass and stops on a dime. She came a long ways.

And, to prove it, I blew the fan belt last night. Took the girlfriend out for dinner. Fortunately, it was on the way home that the fan belt started to squeal and gave out about a mile out. Only damage was the loss of a little coolant out the overflow (recommendations on coolant type/brand?) It's in the garage now.
And, because I also lost the belt (probably to the gods) and I am too lazy to find a piece of string to measure...... Any clue how long the belt is? 77.gif
I plan to run it out to a parade on Friday (4th) so I'm kind of rushing to get it ready. Any help/advise/condolences would be appreciated.
Otherwise, love the car! Been driving it whenever I can. Just watching the brakes (they still drag up front), but, since I adjusted them some more, stopping isn't an issue. I'll have the entire brake system rebuilt in the fall when I can bring myself to be without it.

The serpentine belt broke and the tensioner didn't take out the crank pulley? Ahhh...maybe life was a little better when it was simpler!
You can probably just go down to your local foreign parts store and they'll look up the belt for you...
I think I just got a shipment with a spare belt in it but I won't be back home till the 3rd. Can't for the life of me figure out why the front brakes drag. Did you shim the master by any chance? If you haven't that may do the trick, otherwise you have all new brake components.
Not too worried about finding a belt. Should be pretty easy to come by. Just not sure which one. Also would like to top off the coolant. It didn't over heat until I pulled in the driveway, so there shouldn't be any permanent damage.
I haven't really dove in to looking at the "why it broke" yet. Just ticks me off since I'm under a time limit.
As for the brakes, they've been adjusted. But, there's still something not quite right. The fronts just don't want to release completely and the rears grab really hard in panic stops (lock up). I'll mess with them later. I found a mechanic that actually loves working on the thing, so he'll see it in the fall. I'm not really driving it often enough to justify fixing them immediately. Just want to get the car back on the road to use it in a display this Friday.

Not sure about 9 x 790. Also I don't recall putting in red coolant, it may be residual dirt that's worked it's color into the coolant. Just good ole 50/50 green stuff works just fine.

I've got the green stuff on the shelf.
I found the broken belt stuffed up behind the motor. That's the measurement I came up with. Silly mm's.
It really had a lot of dirt packed in. I flushed the hell out of all the components. Biggest headache is going to be undoing the lower rad hose and getting it back on for this belt job. It's agony.
For shits and grins loosen your master bolts and slide something under it and re tighten to see if that does anything for your sticky brakes.
Got the car in and out of the mechanic today.
838mm was the length used.

Motor mount may be the wrong term.
The arm that sticks out of the firewall and holds the motor from "rolling". Sheered the bolt.
And, no, I did it. I jammed it in to reverse without using the clutch. :-[
EDIT: Proper term is "Engine Steady Arm - Upper". Lol.
Been driving the car.... sometimes.
Gots a new baby. That's taking time. Heh.
Anyways..... starting to work on the "driveability" items. The thing is popping out of second gear on clutch engage/disengage. This is most annoying when going around corners like say...at stop lights. Other things I'm working on are the gas guage being completely wrong. That's just annoying!
Bigger projects..... bonnet fitment! Thinking about replacing the hood hinges with the hi-rise ones that allow for greater access. Hopefully they may offer the opportunity to move the bonnet back about 1/4in. Worth a shot anyways.
Then.... thinking about tires.... It was a mistake to get the 12". Too difficult to get replacements. Sure, I can find them. But selection is limited. Not sure what I'm going to do there. We'll just have to see what's left in the budget for the year....

My mini just started doing the 2nd gear pop out in turns to the right. Haven't bothered looking into what to do to remedy it yet.
Bonnet fitment. Two things. Drill out the hinge points to allow it to slide back or bend each corner in by applying firm pressure. Did both recently on the maroon car and was pleased with the results.
Can't remember but did we put a new gas sensor in the tank?
Davisio, did you fix the engine steady that broke yet - that can cause it to pop out of gear.

And.... yeah.... fixed the engine steady. I think it still rolls.... that's part of the investigation.
Since I've been researching the bonnet hinges (don't kill me, but saying bonnet hurts a little) and since I know I want better access, I'm probably going to go that route. This really came about when I was drilling out the stripped bolt from the engine block for the engine steady....
Thinking about going drivin tomorrow..... if I don't hit the fridge first. Cheers!
How's about a lower engine stabilizer from gearbox to subframe? I did some reading and typically the 2nd gear pop out is due to a worn fork and/or synchro, especially if it's grinding on downshift.

I got it through Texas safety inspection and now have the plates and registration in my name. Title is being processed.
Now to give it some tlc and driving.
