Title: 2017 KC All British Show
Post by: MiniDave on September 04, 2017, 06:57:56 AM
This is a regular Labor Day event on our calendar, the location has moved a number of times and now is held at the local Jaguar, Range Rover, Alfa, Maserati, Porsche and Smart car dealership. They provide the location, and a shuttle bus to run people from the separate parking lot to the event area. They also provided about 20 tables and chairs and porta pottys.

It wasn't too hot yesterday, only mid 80's but the humiditity was up to a million per cent again so it felt miserable, especially in the sun and on the large expanse of black pavement. There was a large pavilion so we were able to get into the shade at least, and food catering trucks to provide breakfast stuff in the AM and a different one for lunch stuff - as long as you like Mexican food....those who ate off the truck said it was really good stuff tho.

There was a pretty good turnout, about 125 entrants and plenty of people walking thru looking at the cars on display. MG, Triumph and Healey were well represented and brought most of the cars, we had 6 Minis and an Austin America race car with a strong sounding 1380 in it, and an interesting revision to the subframe to allow coilovers - this mod can't be done to a Mini without major body modifications, but it sure worked on this car....the fellow who owns the 73 I've been working on took first place with his 71 Cooper S. I didn't win anything, but they had a fun contest - there were small teddy bears attached to a dozen or so car, each with a charm on it - you had to find all the bears and note which car had which charm. It was a fun idea that got people really looking at the cars and interacting with the owners instead of just walking by, and anyone who filled out the form got a small Brit themed key chain. I didn't win any prizes this year, but I got to keep the bear!   ;D

There was a display of the new Alfa Guilias, and they are nice enough looking cars, but at $50K plus I don't know why you'd chose this over an Acura, Infinity or even an Audi A4 for way less money. They also offer an SUV (which I did not know) the one on display was called a Stelvio......as Alfa was the guest marque, there were several older Alfas on display at the show too

I'll start with the new Alfa pics....

Check out the front suspension he built for the coilovers in the Austin America race car..

My friend brought his Jensen Healey instead of his usual entrant - his Caterham..... but it's not a "sexy" color, so it just doesn't get much attention.

My buddy Don chose to bring his MG Midget this year instead of his Pup and won 3rd place with it......he just got it running again after he screwed up his Stromberg carb, he decided to replace it with a Weber kit. It was the first  time he'd tried to tackle anything this complicated and I think it turned out well - the car runs better and has stopped smoking....I think the Stromberg was just dumping fuel down the cylinder walls after he "fixed" it.

The Capri is a famous Perana race car from South Africa (where the owner is from too) and it's a hoot with it's big Ford V-8, stereo and A/C!

Quite a few more cars showed up after I wandered about taking pics, but it got too hot for me, so I stayed in the shade till the end of the event.
